Lace Wig Prep & Application

Lace Wigs are the best way to have a flawless hair look each and every day. It is the celebrities best kept secret and steadily taking the hair care industry on by storm. If you are considering the purchase of a lace wig unit or already have, it's important that you know that preparation is the key to a lasting and finished look. Comprised within this article are some great tips that will benefit your lace wig application.
I. Preparing Lace Wig for Application
1.Pin and clip all hair back from the edge of the wig, including the baby hair, so

hair will not get stuck in glue when applying.
2.Carefully cut lace at the hairline all around lace wig. Make sure baby hair is

pinned back to avoid cutting any of the hair. Leave as little lace as possible

without tearing the unit, as this is a dead-giveaway to the fact that you are wearing

a unit.
**OPTIONAL: After cutting lace, spray Fray Block on the edge of the lace.
Fray block can look like dandruff when it dries, so use sparingly. Also use a

Knot Sealer to tighten strand knots to increase life of unit. Knot Sealers also

help with adhesion.
II.Preparing Skin and Hair for Application
1. Wash, condition, and dry your natural hair. Healthy hair maintenance is still very important.
2. Either braid hair in very small cornrows to the back, or tightly wrap hair. A nice wrap set would be a good choice.
3. Wash face. Then, using cotton balls, clean around hairline with alcohol to remove any oils and cleanser residue.
4. Apply scalp protector to protect skin from adhesives.
**OPTIONAL: Use a beige or color that matches your natural scalp tone

for your nylon wig cap -- The cap is optional and is used as a protective

layer for your hair. In addition, a cap (you can also use pantyhose) will

also give your scalp more definition under your lace wig. Pull cap

on to hairline.
**TIP: To prevent cap from sliding back while under your lace wig,

allow glue, or tape, to overlap onto the cap, or loosely stitch cap in

place to lace unit. Be gentle.
A Word About Adhesives
Lace wigs can be applied with specially formulated bonding tapes, or glues. The type of adhesive used will ultimately depend on your lifestyle, body chemistry, personal preference, and the manufacturers listed hold time. There are many different types of tapes and glues on the market, with varying holding strengths. What works best for you will depend on whether your skin is oily, sensitive, as well as whether you perspire heavily, or have an active lifestyle.
When selecting adhesives, be sure to read the ingredient content to ensure that it does not contain chemicals that you are allergic to or harmful chemicals. Select lace wig distributors, such as Remi Lace Wigs, that only use products that have been deemed medically safe will benefit your health in the long run. Always do your research, and be fully aware of how your body reacts to certain chemicals and adhesives.
III. Application Process
Application Process No. 1 -- Using Glue
1. With a small make-up brush, or Qtip, apply a thin layer of glue around the perimeter of your scalp, just
beyond the hairline. Certain glues must dry and become tacky for up to 15 - 20 minutes before bonding.
** DO NOT BOND LACE WIG TO WET GLUE. WIG WILL NOT STICK WELL.
Application Process No. 2 -- Using Tape

Position lace wig on your head. For proper alignment, begin pressing down at the center point of your head with your finger. (The center point can be determined by parting hair down the middle and aligning with center of forehead.) Then going from one side to the other, press hair down firmly onto adhesive using a tail comb. If you make a mistake, do not panic, just use alcohol on a Q-Tip and place under lace between lace and skin to release and reapply.

Check hairline to touch-up any areas where wig is not applied. When application is completed, use silk scarf to tie down for at least 15-20 minutes to hold hair in place.
Tape is fast, considered by some as less messy, and simple to use.

Make sure skin and wig are clean and dry -- free of all grease and oil.

Cut tape per directions. Usually, you can cut one piece of tape into two slimmer pieces.

Peel tape off of the side that will adhere to the unit.

Apply tape around the perimeter of the unit, remembering to firmly press down.

Position unit onto your head.

Then peel remaining protective paper from the side that will bond to your skin. Starting with the center and going from side to side, pressing down with a tail comb.

When application is complete, tie hairline down with silk scarf for a least 15-20 minutes.
** If you intend to wear the unit for an extended period of time, leave small spaces between tape to allow for water to escape.
